Emaar’s Ambitious New Project: A new Super Tower to Rival the Burj Khalifa

  • Sep 19, 2024 - 2 min read

Emaar Properties is reportedly planning a new “super tower” in Dubai, aimed at surpassing other upcoming global skyscrapers in height. If realized, this structure would likely secure the position of the world’s second tallest building, following the Burj Khalifa, which currently holds the record at 828 meters.

According to industry sources, Emaar’s founder, Mohamed Alabbar, is actively exploring designs that will incorporate advanced, sustainable technologies that have not yet been implemented in any existing development worldwide. This bold vision reflects Emaar’s commitment to innovation and maintaining its leadership in the global real estate landscape.

Potential Locations and Architectural Concepts

Sources suggest that the developer is evaluating several possible locations for the project, with Downtown Dubai and Dubai Creek emerging as top contenders. Multiple architectural designs are under consideration, ranging from a sleek glass tube to a rocket-shaped tower and a futuristic structure with gothic spires. All proposed designs emphasize luxury, offering high-end office spaces, hotels, leisure facilities, and residential units, with significant integration of artificial intelligence in both design and operation.

Competition in the Global Skyline

Emaar’s existing Burj Khalifa has held the title of the world’s tallest building since its opening in January 2010. However, other developments, such as the Burj Azizi, currently under construction and expected to reach 725 meters, are vying for a place in the record books. Meanwhile, Marina 101 and Princess Tower, standing at 425 meters and 414 meters respectively, are significantly shorter but remain prominent features of Dubai’s skyline.

Elsewhere in the region, Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Tower, initially designed to exceed 1 kilometer in height, has faced ongoing delays since construction began over a decade ago. Despite these challenges, the race for the tallest building continues to fuel innovation and ambition in the Middle East’s construction industry.

Emaar’s Confidence in Delivering Again

A source close to the project remarked, “This tower would be the most significant development not only in Dubai but globally since the Burj Khalifa. Having already achieved this feat once, Emaar is uniquely positioned to do it again, and perhaps even better”.
