A meeting of the Dubai Executive Council, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, resulted in the approval of several key projects aligned with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 (D33). The emphasis on forward-thinking planning, a cornerstone of Dubai’s leadership’s strategy, was reiterated by Sheikh Hamdan. This approach, he explained, has been instrumental in Dubai’s rise as a global leader and its ability to establish benchmarks in future preparedness and infrastructure development.
The Council greenlit the development of a world-class, sustainable sewage system – a centennial project – to be delivered through a public-private partnership. This Dh80 billion initiative aligns with both D33 and the Dubai Urban Plan 2040, aiming to reduce carbon emissions, promote resource efficiency, and enhance Dubai’s global competitiveness. Private sector collaboration is seen as crucial for achieving these goals
Sheikh Hamdan further emphasized the unwavering support for entrepreneurship. He highlighted the successful development of Dubai’s dynamic knowledge and innovation-driven economy, spearheaded by small and medium enterprises (SMEs). To further empower this sector, the Council approved a new strategic model for the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for SME Development (Dubai SME). This strategy aims to foster innovation, create jobs, empower Emirati entrepreneurs, and establish new ventures, all contributing to the goals outlined in D33.
The approval of the advanced sewage system positions Dubai as a leader in modern, sustainable infrastructure. This project aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the city’s sustainability objectives by extending the system’s lifespan and improving operational efficiency.
The new Dubai SME strategy focuses on supporting the emirate’s entire entrepreneurial ecosystem across all sectors. This approach aims to create a flexible and diversified future economy, contributing significantly to Dubai’s GDP and job creation. The strategy aligns with D33’s objective of increasing demand for local goods and services.
The expanded scope of Dubai SME encompasses supporting new economy ventures, empowering Emirati businesses, and assisting high-growth companies in accessing global markets. Specific focus areas for Emirati entrepreneurs are identified, with an emphasis on future-oriented and scalable business models.
