President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has officially designated July 18 as Union Pledge Day. This important date marks the historic moment when the Founding Father of the UAE, along with the Rulers of the Emirates, signed the Union declaration. This pivotal event on July 18, 1971, laid the groundwork for the official establishment of the nation on December 2, 1971.

“On this day in 1971, the Founding Father and his brothers, the Rulers, signed the Union declaration and the UAE Constitution, announcing the name of our country: the United Arab Emirates. This historic day set the stage for the nation’s official establishment on December 2. Today, we declare July 18 as Union Pledge Day, a national occasion to honor our country’s history and the blessed journey towards establishing the Union,” stated the UAE President.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice-President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, emphasized that Union Pledge Day is a historic milestone marking the inception of the nation’s journey of unity and solidarity.

“The announcement by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan that July 18 will be celebrated annually as ‘Union Pledge Day’ pays tribute to the Union’s journey, initiated by the Founding Father and his fellow Rulers of the Emirates. On this historic date, the founding fathers signed the Union document and drafted the state constitution,” said Sheikh Mansour.

“Today, we celebrate and immortalize this momentous occasion in the nation’s memory and in the hearts of its people. ‘Union Pledge Day’ embodies the values of unity, solidarity, and cohesion among the people of the UAE,” he added.
