Dubai has once again been recognized as the cleanest city globally, maintaining its top position in the Global Power City Index (GPCI) for the fifth consecutive year. This ranking, issued by the Institute for Urban Strategies at the Mori Memorial Foundation in Japan, highlights Dubai’s continuous commitment to urban cleanliness and environmental sustainability.

The emirate’s repeated success underscores its dedication to upholding the highest international standards in urban living and environmental conservation. Dubai’s leadership in sustainable urban development is a testament to its efforts to create a model city for the future.

Excellence in Environmental Standards

Dubai achieved a perfect 100% satisfaction score in the city cleanliness metric under the environment pillar. This category is one of the key benchmarks for evaluating the global competitiveness of cities, positioning Dubai ahead of 47 other cities worldwide.

This milestone is the result of Dubai Municipality’s strategic initiatives, executed in collaboration with both public and private sector partners. These efforts align with the Dubai Integrated Garbage Management Strategy 2041, which aims to divert 100% of waste from landfills and reduce waste production by 18% within the set timeframe.

Enhancing Quality of Life and Community Well-being

Dubai Municipality remains steadfast in its mission to enhance the emirate’s global standing, sustainability, and appeal. By continuously improving municipal services, it aims to elevate the quality of life, increase community satisfaction, and support Dubai’s vision of becoming the world’s best city to live and work in.

Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized that Dubai’s global recognition is driven by its ambition to be the best place to live and work. He credited the city’s consistent achievements across multiple sectors to the UAE leadership’s vision, which inspires teams to strive for excellence.

Bin Ghalita commended the dedication of Dubai Municipality’s cleanliness teams, consisting of over 3,200 engineers, supervisors, and monitors. Their commitment has played a pivotal role in maintaining the city’s pristine condition for five consecutive years. He also acknowledged the vital collaboration between the public and private sectors, as well as the support of the wider community, in achieving this significant milestone.

Advanced Sustainability and Cleaning Systems

Dubai Municipality oversees an advanced sustainability and cleaning system that ensures seamless operations throughout the year. This system is powered by a fleet of 855 state-of-the-art vehicles and equipment, reinforcing the emirate’s adherence to international standards.

Additionally, the Municipality manages an extensive range of daily cleaning programs across key locations, including:

  • 2,400 kilometers of major roads and highways
  • 1,419 square kilometers of investment zones
  • 33.4 kilometers of water canals and creeks
  • Residential, commercial, and rural areas
  • Markets and waste storage facilities

Dubai Municipality also oversees programs for removing abandoned vehicles and equipment, offering community e-services for disposing of household furniture, and managing hazardous and medical waste treatment. E-systems are used to monitor private sector vehicles involved in waste collection and transportation, ensuring regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.

Embracing Technology for Environmental Sustainability

In line with its sustainability goals, Dubai Municipality integrates cutting-edge technologies to reduce carbon emissions, optimize energy consumption, and safeguard natural resources. Key initiatives include:

  • Deployment of electric vehicles for public cleaning operations
  • Development of intelligent waste collection, storage, and transportation systems

Supporting the development of an eco-friendly waste management system, the Municipality is determined to position Dubai as the most sustainable city globally while enhancing the overall quality of life for its residents.
