Dubai experienced a significant surge in international visitors in 2024, reaching 18.72 million, a 9% increase from the previous year. This remarkable growth reinforces the city’s global tourism appeal, driven by strategic investments, enhanced infrastructure, and extensive promotional campaigns initiated by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET).

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emphasized that Dubai’s tourism success aligns with the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. This initiative aims to position Dubai as a leading destination for both business and leisure. He underscored the critical role of innovation, skilled talent acquisition, and foreign investments in sustaining long-term growth.

DET has worked closely with various stakeholders to enrich Dubai’s tourism offerings, ensuring world-class infrastructure and a diverse array of experiences for visitors. Global campaigns, including ‘Dubai, What’s Not To Love?’ and ‘If You Go, You Know,’ played a pivotal role in enhancing Dubai’s global presence and attracting a broader audience.

Dubai’s Expanding Hospitality Sector

The hospitality sector significantly contributed to Dubai’s tourism growth, with the total hotel room inventory reaching 154,016 rooms across 832 establishments by the end of 2024. New luxury hotel openings, such as One&Only One Za’abeel and The Lana Dorchester Collection, bolstered the city’s appeal. Dubai also achieved an impressive average hotel occupancy rate of 78.2%, reflecting strong visitor demand.

Infrastructure Developments Enhancing Connectivity

Major infrastructure projects are set to further improve Dubai’s accessibility. The expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) and the development of Dubai Metro’s Blue Line will enhance connectivity for both tourists and residents. Additionally, Dubai maintained its position as a top destination for foreign direct investment, securing the highest number of greenfield FDI projects in the tourism sector globally during the first half of 2024.

Culinary Excellence and Future Innovations

Dubai’s commitment to excellence extends to its vibrant culinary scene, with 106 Michelin-recognized restaurants and prestigious events like The Best Chef Awards 2024 hosted in the city. Looking ahead, Dubai is set to integrate advanced technologies, including AI-driven visitor experiences, to further elevate its status as a premier global destination.
