The UAE Cabinet convened on Wednesday under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The meeting addressed key issues including:

Support for Citizens Affected by Weather:

  • A significant AED 2 billion package was approved to address damage to citizens’ homes caused by recent severe weather events.
  • A ministerial committee was established to assess damage and oversee compensation distribution in collaboration with federal and local authorities.

National Response to Infrastructure Impacts:

  • A separate committee, chaired by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, was formed to evaluate flood and rain damage to infrastructure.
  • The committee will propose solutions and national-level measures, drawing participation from relevant federal entities and representatives from all seven emirates.

Appreciation for Emergency Response:

  • The Cabinet commended the tireless efforts of government and emergency response teams, volunteers, and the public for their swift response and collaboration during the challenging weather conditions.
  • Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the effectiveness of central operation rooms in managing over 200,000 reports with personnel exceeding 42,000 individuals.

Positive Outcomes from Weather Event:

  • Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the positive aspects of the weather event, including replenished dam and groundwater reserves. He also noted the importance of the event in enhancing preparedness for future situations.

UAE Tourism Strategy Update:

  • The Cabinet received updates on the UAE Tourism Strategy and its achievements.
  • Hotel guest numbers reached 28 million in 2023, marking a notable 11% increase compared to the previous year.
  • The tourism sector’s contribution to GDP is projected to nearly reach AED 180 billion in 2023, signifying a strong and growing industry.

Cabinet Attendance:

  • The meeting, held at Qasr Al Watan, was attended by prominent figures including His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
